SKATE TIPS-POP SHUV-IT

The pop shuv-it is the second trick that most skaters learn. The pop shuv-it is a beginner level trick. In this trick the board does a 180 but your body doesn't. So the board just spins right under you and you land on it. This skateboard trick is also one of the most visual appealing tricks. I put this trick as second because I feel it is not much harder than the ollie. I actually learned frontside and backside 180s before the pop shuv-it, but when I learned the pop shuv-it, it was a lot easier to execute than the 180s. The pop shuv-it really only has two steps but there are a lot of tips to help with these steps. The first step of the pop shuv-it is the Pop and Scoop. Both of these are done at the exact same time so they are one step. The pop shuv-it can be done with no pop, but then it would be called a shuv-it. The next step is the jump. Two steps? How that's easier than the ollie...no the pop shuv-it requires the full rotation of the 180 and many beginner can't get the 180 consistantly. This trick is going to need a lot more work than the ollie, so if you get frustrated, don't worry everyone has had a lot of trouble with this trick. Anyways lets get into how to land it.

THE STEPS OF THE OLLIE

^POP SHUV-IT^

STEP 1: POP AND SHUV

The first part of this trick is the pop and the shuv. The pop and the shuv should be executed at the exact same time. This will allow the board to make a full 180 degrees and for the board to get into the air. Your backfoot will be on the tail, with your toes hanging off the side a little bit. This will make it easier to get the full 180. The font foot can basically be anywhere on the board as long as its close to the middle or bolts of the board. A trick to keeping the board from flipping after popping is keeping your front foot on it the whole time as it's rotating. When your front foot is on it, you want to keep as little pressure on it as possible, so you don't keep the board from spinning. If you have too much pressure on the board, then the board will just stop mid-roation. If your foot isn't on the board at all it will probably flip half way and you will land on the graphic. The scoop is done by throwing your backfoot behind you, in a scooping motion. Your front foot following the board also helps the board rotate. The backfoot has to scoop behind you. If you scoop infront of you it will be considered a frontside pop shuv-it, but what we're learning is a backside pop shuv-it. That is how to execute the first step of the pop shuv-it.

STEP 2: JUMP

The next step in the pop shuv-it is the jump. The jump is done at almost the exact same time as the pop, just a little after. To jump after the pop you are going to need to bend down. Just like any sort of jump, you need to bend down before. The more you bend down the easier it will be to land on the board. This is because you have more time to choose when to land on the board. The more you bend down will also allow you to jump higher to, which will make you trick look a lot better. The pop shuv-it will sometimes needs a catch. A catch is when you stop the board from flipping or over rotating. The pop shuv-it is a front foot catch trick. This is because the backfoot is doing everything and the front foot isn't doing that much, and it should already be close to the board once it is fully rotated. The is how the jump of the pop shuv-it is executed.
